Introduction.

The idea of organizing the UMP- MGRC BIOINFORMATICS WORKSHOP was brought up by the students of BCI 3043 (INTRODUCTION TO BIOINFORMATICS) together with Faculty of Computer Systems and Software Engineering for the first time in UMP. UMP students will be directly exposed to the Bioinformatics subject which still new among the students. This program will be cheered with medical students involvement from International Islamic University of Malaysia (UIAM) Kuantan campus, students from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Kubang Kerian campus, student from Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), and a few Institutions Of Higher Learning from East Coast. This workshop also was designed for all biologists and researchers who are interested in applying bioinformatics for their research. The workshop will commence with a review of fundamental genomics and bioinformatics principles and continue with a detailed theoretical and practical session on bioinformatics applications.

This workshop will also include a hands-on session where attendees will work through the applications closely guided by a team of experienced bioinformaticians.All bioinformatics tools that will be reviewed during the workshop are accessible for free at www.mgrc.com.my.

The Objective of this event are :

• To consolidate relationship between UMP students with students from other Institutions.
• To cultivate goodwill spirit between each students.
• To provide exposure and an opportunity to UMP’s students and other students of Bioinformatics subject more precisely.
• To cultivate student sensitivity on new technology which need to be spearheaded by all students.
